Convert different image formats to text with our specialized OCR tools
HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding, also called H.265) is a compression method. It was made for video, and Apple also uses it for still photos: a .heic photo is an HEVC compressed image stored in a HEIF container. So when people say "HEVC photo" they almost always mean a HEIC file from an iPhone.
This page reads those still photos. It does not accept video: an iPhone video recorded in HEVC is saved as .mov or .mp4, and this tool opens neither. To get text from a video, pause on the frame you need, take a screenshot and use screenshot to text.
For iPhone photos, the main page is iPhone photo to text (HEIC), with tips for sharp shots and batches of up to 20 photos.
HEVC OCR technology scans text in HEVC images and converts it into editable digital format. Upload your image, let the OCR engine process it, and instantly copy or download your text.

No. Only still images are accepted. Pause the video, take a screenshot, then add the screenshot here or on screenshot to text.
HEVC is the compression codec, HEIC is the photo file that uses it. An iPhone photo is a HEIC file with an HEVC compressed image inside. The HEIC to text page covers those photos in full.
No. That Microsoft Store extension lets Windows apps display HEVC images and video. This page converts the photo inside the browser, so it reads HEIC photos without it.
